MARGINALIA
EditorialABOUT
Marginalia is a literary zine that explores the life and works of authors whose works are considered “classics.” Each issue focuses on an individual author, providing short biographies and other articles that discuss the writer’s life and some of their work, giving a brief overview of an author and their influence.
CHALLENGE Marginalia profiles authors from a large range of time periods with different types of imagery, such as photographs, illustrations, and paintings. The art direction for Marginalia needs to be able to incorporate these images in a way that keeps the aesthetic of the zine the same from issue to issue, while establishing a design that is unique to Marginalia‘s brand.
SOLUTIONCreating a design system that is clean and modern that can be easily adapted for different featured authors. Images are edited with a duotone effect in Marginalia‘s brand colours to keep a cohesive look no matter the type of image.
